I want to purchase a used 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad CAB Laramie. What are some things I should look out for on the 2003 model?

I'd listen for lifters and make sure the tranny shifts good.

Buddy of mine has a 2003, and they area constantly changing lifters in it (which isn't cheap to do) and have had tranny problems with it for a long time.

mind you...its a work truck, and has 240,000 km's on it.

You mean beyond the sound at startup that goes away after the oil warms up? I think I've heard that on almost every cold started 4.7 I've been next to.

Ok, here goes. I just went through this on my 03 I just bought. Shoulda checked it over better...

Make sure the heat is blowing equally as hot out of all vents, if not, the dash has to come out for repairs. They are notorious for blend dooor failures and clogged heater cores.

Make sure the ac blows nice and cold while idling at a stand still. If it doesnt, most likey the ac condenser fan motor is burnt out. Another typical problem. Got mine off of ebay for $65.00 shipped.

Rack and Pinions are known to leak and fail. Cant see any noticeble leaks cause its trapped in the boot. I'll be dealing with this very soon.

I just replaced an o2 sensor and will replace a cat converter as soon as I can find a replacement.

4.7L V8 = Horrid Engine Sludge buildup.

Just replaced a seized brake caliper.

Cracked dashboards...

Im sure Im missing a ton of stuff. Ill add more when I think of it.
