100,000 mile Service items checklist
Hey all; well my Brandie just past the 100,000 barrier and it time to do some maintainance to her. So heres a few questions.
1. I was wondering what Radiator fluid everyone is using/replacing theirs with
2. I'm probably going to replace the rear axle fluid. I'm leaning towards Amsoil or Royal Purple not sure yet.
I did the tranny flush and filters change last year so I'm good for another year. I do the oil change with Mobil 1 every 5000. Tune up was done last year too. Any more suggestions or any certain things I should be on the lookout for? Just changed the brake pads for the first time last month after 85,000 plus miles (lots of highway miles)
Thanks all, H-

spark plugs, maybe new brake fluid if you really want to, check ball joints and steering end links, suspension bushings, fluid levels on everything (though you should always be checking these!), air filter, and i know the "new" synthetic oil allows more milage between oil changes but i still do them at 3k on my 4.7 just because of the oil problems these motors are known for, i'm at 140k miles and no cracked heads or blown head gaskets yet!

Thanks all I've been using the Seafoam in the gas tank I'm thinking about using some in the crank case about 500 miles before the next change. What about the brand of Radiator fluid? anything special. I hear the Mopar brand is kinda pricey compared to what's at Advanced auto or Auto Zone.

I was just going over this myself, as my 03 is about to roll over 100K. The service manual (conveanantly located in weedahoe's sig) essentially says to replace all the fluids (everything) and do the spark plugs. Don't forget the power steering fluid. I believe it's also just ATF +4, but double check the service manual. Some people have had really bad luck with failed rack and pinon units, so use your own judgment. You may want to just leave well enough alone. I don't know how to change it, but I figured at the minimum I'll siphon out what I can and put in new stuff.
As for coolant, I always stick with the OEM recommended stuff. I just flushed my GM car and had two people tell me "don't use DEXCOOL it'll ruin your engine!". I look at it this way; the OEM went to a lot of trouble to design a coolant and a cooling system. They know what's best for it. I don't subscribe to the conspiricy theories that manufactures design **** to fail so that you'll have to buy a new vehicle sooner than latter (not that they don't screw things up though). Do a good clean flush, spend the extra $10 for the recommended coolant, or spend a little more for the better stuff if you do a lot of hard driving.
