Default 2004 ECU Swap?

Hey guys. Would it be possible to run a 2005 ECU in a 2004 Ram 1500 BOTH being 4.7L automatic of course? Thanks. This is purely a "what if" question. I don't NEED to do and ECU swap or anything.

The reasoning behind this is because of Superchips lack of TM options for the 2004 models only. Superchips told me that it is only the 2004 models that do not have the part throttle TM adjustability. So, my reasoning is that if a 2005 ECU can be used in my 2004 truck, and the ECU can be tuned with all the TM options, then I win.

Not as easy as you might think, BCM is tied to the ECU, Gauge cluster is tied to the BCM, All three are VIN Locked to the truck, and thats just if you don't have security system built into your truck, IE Chipped key, Alarm, etc...

Very least would require BCM, ECU and Gauge cluster all to be swapped out from the donor truck and that would really only possibly work if no security was involved and the donor and recipient truck had the EXACT same feature set. Also the Gauge cluster would have the wrong Mileage and dealership would most likely not touch the truck with 10ft pole.

IDK about a 4.7 but I went through all of this for the 5.7 for the same reasons as you. From what i can tell it is doable but you will need the PCM programmed with the trucks VIN and will need the 05 engine and other PCM wiring harnesses.

Damn, so not as easy of a fix as I thought. I'll just have to get in good with the team at SC. Maybe a 12-pack and a pretty please and they'll fix it for us. = p

Well Im just being truthful. But then I just remembered you have SC and you 4.7 guys just got support so that is a positive thing. But us 5.7 guys have had it for some time so it may work out. I wish Diablo would get off their **** and do something for 04 and down. Thats who i was thinking you had when i said that

Yeah, it hasn't been available for too long for us 4.7 guys. Although, Scott had said that he know when, if ever, the engineers will be able to figure out a way to fix it. Something about a comunication problem with the ECU on 2004's only. Hence, the reason I wanted to try a 2005 ECU swap.

Maybe one day I'll do the swap... But honestly, if I was gonna do that, I'd spend the money putting a custom SC kit that I've been wanting to do for a while, or an engine swap, or just trading in for a cummins. = p We'll see.
