Smile Lower ball joints

Hi I have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 2wd with 95000 miles. I went to tire shop
to get tires and alignment. The alignment mechanic told me I should replaced lower ball joints He showed me there cracked, Any recomendationon what brands to look for.
Going to possibly do it my self. Since he quoted me $600.00 for the job. Thanks

are just the boots cracked or are they physically worn as in movement?

everntually if they are cracked they will need to be replaced due to dirt and sane entering the ball and socket portion of the ball joint.
if you are going after market ball joints find ones with grease zerks

Just found out mine are due to be replaced at 70,000 miles on my 2002, after my brake job. Are you kidding me??? This is a serious design flaw Dodge needs to deal with, or at least recall. Jeeez!!

At 70k you should be replacing them anyway. This is a part of your preventive maintenance. How long do you think they should last because they handle all the variable positions of the wheels as you drive? Just think about how much abuse and work they really take on.

Go to www.rockauto.com and get the Moog BJs as they are reputable and have grease zerks in them. You can do it yourself as it is not hard and doesnt take long. There are several threads here on the board about changing them out. Be sure to fully inspect the upper BJs also because, remember, they have the same miles, age and abuse on them as well. Change everything out yourself and then take it back for the alignment and save a lot of labor (or parts) cost.
