Default 2005 Dodge Ram Noise

I have a moaning noise from time to time when I accelerate from a stopped position. It seems to be more prominent after I break hard and then acclerate. The moaning nosie disappears after I get above 15 mph. I hear the noise in forward and reverse. Could this be a caliber or parking break?

Welcome to DF.

That's a tough one. It could be numerous things.

I have the same moaning noise on my 2004, mostly when the engine is cold. The best I can trace it back is the exhaust heat shield. Either the vibrations smooth out, the exhaust heats up and expands or the road noise covers it up.

Does this happen every time, all the time, or just after the truck has been parked for a while (a day or more). Sometimes when the truck sits for a while, tranny fluid will leak from the pump into the pan. Takes a few minutes of idle to get the tranny system back to pressure. Moaning could be from the pump. Just a guess though, the more detail you can provide the more info we can give.

No it doesn't happen everytime, there are days when it will happen everytime I stop and take off again. Then other times, I will not hear it for days. You can feel a vibration/moan when this happens. The moaning is loud, you can hear it outside the truck when acclerating. It seems like a brake is sticking.

I replaced the brake pads and rotors on the front and back this summer. The problem is still present! Could the parking brake cause this?

If you let someone idle the truck forward while you listen beside the rear wheels, does it sound like it is coming from your parking brakes?

I haven't been able to track down the source of the noise. It doesn't do it all the time. So it makes it hard to have someone around when it start.
