Default cruise control-vehicle speed sensor circuit problem

I installed a front leveling kit in my 2007 ram 1500 rcsb 5.7L in 2008. No problems until earlier this year when the speed sensor wire slipped from where i had it tied and was cut by the aftermarket bumpstop. I cut out out the bad area and soldered it back together and cleared the code with my sc cortex tuner. I broke the lock tab on the sensor wire connector but just pushed it together and hard as i could and hoped it would stay. Worked fine for about 3 months. Maybe 2 weeks ago the cruise turned off on me on the highway. It would go back on but would cut out again from time to time. I reached under and pushed the connector together, and it seemed to work fine for a day, then started cutting out again. Last week it stopped working entirely. I checked the code the other day and not only did i have the vss circuit code, but an erratic vss performance code. I figured the connector was losing connection, so i taped it together. no luck. Today i cut the connector out entirely, got some more wire the same gauge, and hard wired the sensor the the harness. I carefully ohmed the connector to make sure I had the polarity of the wires correct. The cruise still wont work. Is there some fuse or resistor inside the speed sensor that I burned out, or did I damage something inside the ecm?

no its the abs sensor, its done i had the same issue on mine had to replace the sensor and it worked great. unfortunetly its cheaper to buy a new bearing then just the sensor.

thanks for the reply. The sensor comes with the hub assembly?? you must have had to get it from the dealer right?

I came in today to research the same thing. I replaced both hubs with the ebay hubs about a year/20K miles ago. I wonder if the cheap VSS supplied with the ebay hubs is my problem?

Last week my cruise died while using it. The truck bucked once and the cruise went off, never to come on again.

Reading other cruise threads today, I will try to see if it comes on at a stop and will check codes tonight.

One other thread also indicated stumbling or stalling or the motor misfiring.

This also started to happen yesterday. Just an occasional hiccup at low RPM cruise.

It was worse this morning and it was idilng very rough. Actually died at one stoplight.

I did replace front pads/rotors about two weeks ago as well, FWIW.

So do you think the cruise/misfiring/stalling is all tied to the same thing like a VSS? It all started to happen at the same time.

OK, an update.

Tested tonight and the cruise won't turn on at all. Checked codes with my scanner. No codes. Disconnected battery. After hooking it back up the cruise does now turn on just until I move over 5 mph and then the CRUISE light on the dash goes back off, which seems to be common. If I stop, I can turn it back on.

Driving to work today it was bucking and lurching going down the road, bad idle and died once. Went to lunch and a bit of the same, but not as bad. Coming home (20 miles) and zero running problems, idled perfectly smooth at stops, but still no cruise. With no codes, I'm at a loss to whether it's a speed sensor (diff or trans) or front ABS speed sensor or something else entirely.

Any thoughts?
