Default Replace/Upgrade Alternator - What fits?

My alternator is going, and I was wondering if any other vehicles' alternators would fit? Would an alternator from a 3500 or some other big tow vehicle put out more power? And how much would an upgraded alternator cost?

You can get the 160A alt but that is the biggest stock alt without going custom. What all are you trying to power?

What can I pull a 160 amp alternator off of?
Planning on powering a mild sound system, and occasionally a camper or a winch. Looking at dual batteries as well

First of all, what makes you think your alternator "is going"?

Alternators usually work or not for the most part.

Durango's wit the Hemi work as well, but use the same 136A alternator as you have. You could upgrade to a 160A alternator that is used in towing applications like THIS

The alternator is still charging, but the bearing is howling. Still spins fairly free and charges but it needs to be replaced soon. Has anyone rebuilt their own alternator?

Never seen anyone rebuild their own alt but you do not necessarily need a bigger alt. Look in my sig link at my mods and you will see I am running a 2k watt system, 2 sets of HIDs, a few TVs, an Xbox 360 with a power inverter and a Viair 380c air compressor all with two 1000CA (850CCA) batteries and a stock 136A alt.

You can buy a 160A alt at any auto parts store though.

Alright it looks like a 160 amp alternator would be my best bet. Thanks!
Any tips for going to dual batteries?

You can look at my threads I made and find the one on my Big 3 Upgrade where I added another battery and redid all my power and ground wires. There are plenty of pics
