Default question?

Hello all, Im not really new here I'm kinda more of a lurker. I spend more time reading than posting. So i would like to introduce myself, my name is Rob and I work for Advance Auto. I recently moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina because I was stationed here for a short time with the Marines and always liked it. I drive an 08 ram QCSB 4.7l with a tuner, custom intake and 3"single in 2.5"dual out exhaust.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask a question? I bought a 4.10, Truetrac, and master install kit from nick at Airram, who is a great guy that I recommend if u need anything, and had it installed at a dealership. sands dodge Chrysler jeep in Quakertown, PA to be specific.

Now I live In Advance, NC ten months later and it started roaring like its gonna explode.
Can anyone recommend anyone that does great work with the 9.25 rear near me that will do the job right without charging me an arm and a leg(I only have one good one! lol) and I already have almost $1500 in this rear.

Unfortunately now I have to buy a master bearing kit and have it redone because the stealership wont do a thing even though the guy had it apart four times, it had a little whine to it but they said they would charge me to take it apart again. Then he said I was stupid for putting in 4.10's because it was gonna be at 4000 rpms all the time, ha ya right. Then the idiot set the tire size wrong good thing I have a tuner to reprogram it.

I read all the problems people had with shops installing rears but I had some tax free money left from the sandbox, I love my truck and the TT with 4.10's but if I could go back I would have just bought a big horn with 3.90's and an lsd and saved myself the headache and expense.

Oh well hindsight is 20/20 right!
So if anyone can help me out I greatly appreciate it!!
-Rob-

Welcome to the site. I will move this thread the third generation Ram section, but you can also ask this in the Regional sections (South?),

when was the last time the fluid level was checked in the diff? I was going to get a set of 4.10s for mine as well 'cause the v6 wants and more importantly NEEDS to rev to make power. The Guy at the dealership sounds like a complete tool and utter Dbag who shouldn't even have a screw driver in his possession to me. What is he talking about 4000RPMs? The highest gears that you can put in this rear end (4.56) would have you sitting at just under 3000 RPMs at 70MPH with stock tire size. If you want to know what that is like, turn your overdrive off and drive. I've done the math and the best overall gears are the 4.10s without extreme tires. I'm just guessing based on the info, but it seems to me that the idiot probably either A: didn't add gear oil, or B: doesn't know how to install a gasket and all the fluid leaked out over time. If it is full, he probably forgot to install some of the parts, or reused other parts that should have been replaced in the first place. Personally, I won't let another "mechanic" come within 10 feet of my truck. I do all of my own work and refuse to do otherwise. I would rather know why it broke than have the same idiot who broke it charge me to break it again.

I run about 2000-2100 at 70 with 456s. IDK where you guys get 3000+ from. Anyway, the best thing I can tell you to do is call some local speed shops and see if they do it or know anyone one the side who can do it. The pinion bearing is likely gone or going and needs to be replaced. Thats where most of the howling comes from in most cases.

Biggest gears you can add are 5 something and next lower than that are 488s, then 456s, 410s, 392s, 355s, 321s.

Thanks guys I appreciate all the responses, fluid level is good I replaced the fluid 500 miles afterwards with lucas to see if it helped and checked it when it started getting louder. My truck is right at 2000 at 70mph and will drop a couple hundred when i get upsized tires. Anyone in central NC know a good shop experienced with the 9.25? Most shops we deal with at work are not very specialized I dont think I would even call them mechanics! lol
Thanks again -Rob-

Best thing you can do is pick up the phone book IMO unless you find some guys local to you. Look in the regional sections and see who you can find

I get about 2k at 70 with stock tire size (about 31 inches), so I just did the math. 70=3.55 gears @2000rpms. 70x3.55 / 4.56=54.4mph @2000rpms. Also, using the same math, 2000rpms=70mph @3.55. So, 2000/3.55 x 4.56=2569rpms. That's where I got just under 3k from. Bear in mind, these numbers are not totally accurate, and vary depending on wheel/tire combos.
