Quick question
Recently my truck started making a clunking sound when going from reverse to drive. When i back up and put the truck into drive; as soon as i go to move forward it makes a clunking which sounds like its in the rear. After that, nothing.
The u-joints are new and i just changed the fluid in the rear diff. and everything looked good. any ideas?

check tranny fluid...and double check slack in rear-end...output shaft on tranny...and ujoints...other than that it very well could be internal
i have also heard of shock mounts or spring mounts being loose and causing this...check the ubolts around rear axle housings and springs when the torque is put in a different direction it could be causing these to move or shift.
is your spare tire up against bed frame good and tight...?
check tranny mounting bolts on cross members
there is an explanation for it...just have to dig for it
hope this helps

If you do a search you will find several of ours do it (mine included). I have been under my truck many times and nothing is worn or loose. Usually most of us see it when it is cold out or the trans is cold and we very quickly jump in, crank it up and shift into gear. If you start it up and wait 10-15+ secs then shift and see if it still does it.
Fluids all look good and everything seems tight. It's not a noise like something is loose as it only does it one time when going from reverse to drive.
Weedahoe- It did just start once it started getting cold at night (not sure if its a coincidence) but it does it even after driving all day. But it's only after I put it into drive from reverse and then go to move forward. I get the noise and then nothing no other time.
I put it into reverse(move back) then stop, put it into drive, wait a second and then move forward and still get that clanking noise.

I kind of agree. ^^ it just started doing it but not sure what to think if most peoples trucks are doing it with "no problems"

No they should not make the noise. But my buddy has an 03 ram 2500 with 145,000 miles and it has done that from day one. So if it has not caused any issues in 145,000 miles.... I would not be concerned about it.
Sorry don't wanna jack your thread but since yours is about reverse and transmission noises. I'd thought I'd ask here instead of adding another thread.
Anyways my truck when it gets cold makes a whining noise when I put it in reverse.
