Creaky Seat Fix
I have been going nuts lately with a creaky seat in my 2008 Dodge Ram!! It seemed to start out of the blue for no apparent reason, so I was happy when I was able to finally fix it.
Here are the steps that cured it for my truck:
1. Pull off the removable trim piece that covers where the seat belt anchors to the seat frame. It just snaps off - no tools needed for this part.
2. Remove the bolt that secures the seat belt to the seat frame. I think it is actually a torx head, but I had an allen wrench that was close in size and it worked just fine.
3. Remove the handle that is used to recline the seat with a standard phillips screwdriver.
4. Remove the trim piece that covers the lower part of the seat cushion and the seat frame. Should be a total of 3 or 4 phillips head screws.
At this point you will see the brackets that mount to the floor and attach to the seat slide rail mechanisms. I actually found that mine was creaking where these two metal parts bolt together. They were tight and tightening them up more didn't help at all.
What I did at this point was loosen the 3 bolts that attach the seat slide rails to the seat brackets. You can get at them from underneath with a 12MM socket. Two bolts are towards the back and one is towards the front. I loosened them up about an 1/8 of an inch and slid some thin foam padding between these two metal pieces. I just used some of the tool box liner matierial I had lying around in the garage. It was thin enough and firm enough to slide in easily. I put the padding in just about the whole length of the bracket except where the bolts were and tightened everything back up and it has been quiet ever since!
I hope it works for others as well! This was driving me nuts! I had even tried re-tightening up every seat bolt I could find, as well as lubing the seat slides with no luck. I only had to do this on the side closest to the drivers side door to fix it on my truck.
This is a great Forum. Thanks for the help and tips on everything...
