Anyone have pictures of a DIY winch mount for a truck like ours? Any ideas for beefing up a front reciever hitch?

Warn makes a hidden mount for Rams that mounts behind the front bumper. Pick one up or get a pic and try to fab one up. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the Warn front receiver for the Ram 1500 is rated for 9000# of straight line pull...

Ok so what your saying is you only need 1.5x the weight on a winch? So if the truck weighs 4500lbs you would need 6750lb winch...

Is this correct?

well yeah, but allow for stuff that's in your truck, accessories, gear, etc. 8000# winch would be the fine for that truck weight.

Although I'm a big fan of Warn, they are pricey. Lot of Chinese made winches on the market now of varying quality. Many start under $300 for an 8k winch. Really no excuse anymore for anyone who goes off the beaten trail to not have a winch, IMO...

The 9000 lbs straight line pull is good, but with 500 lb tongue weight winching at an angle might be a problem would it not?

That is true. A ****** block or a pull-pal could give you a straight line pull

There was a guy on DT who had a Warn winch and hidden setup for sale off a Power Wagon. I think he wanted like 1500 last time I checked though.

If I'm not mistaken, the PW comes with a Warn 12k winch. If pulled off the truck new, that's not far off. About what you'd pay those two parts if ordering from GoWarn.com...

Of course, if you don't have to see that big "W" on the winch, 12k winches are out there for $500...
