I've never seen that before either. That's a sweet looking truck though!

Haha maybe. Idk it has to be something decently important cus it heavy metal and actually swivels. The red wire was from the original owner. Hooks to the led light on the spoiler lol they routed a wire all the way from the rear of the tonnaue cover to the front the. Under the bed all the way to the end of the bed and tapped into the towing harness. I understand why route it through the cover. So it's not pinched or anything. But why not tap in 6 feet farther up on the tow harness lol. Idk

Anyway I'm removing the hitch for a roll pan I'll take more pics of this thing off the truck

Might be a MegaCab thing. Looks like a vibration damper. Possibly to help the 2500 suspension ride more like a 1500.

That seems reasonable. But I'm still pissed. IM gonna had to lift the bed to remove the hitch because of this thing. Also if it's just a
Counter weight. Why would they put the effort on to making it swivel No matter what the load it shouldn't angle thaaaatttt much. A little bit but not that much

The bed needs to be lifted to remove the hitch cross member regardless if you have a dampener or not. I unbolted the rear four bolts and jacked the bed up just enough to remove the cross member. IMO, The roll pan will look good....

Normally yes be bed has to be lifted but I have a body lift so I'd be able to sneak it out with just removing the last two bolts. Butttt this hunk of
Metal makes it impossible with or without body lift
