I dont care what holds the bumper up. It is not a class III. You need a hitch like what was posted above to be safe.

I'm not home to look at it but it is Class III or IV. I know my hidden hitch is Class III and it is not as stout as the factory hitch. I have also seen this same hitch welded to the cross member. I think it was a factory weld. I ordered mine from the dealer. I've seen my neigbhors hualing their farm equipment using the same hitch. Using the factory cross member this will haul anything the truck can pull. The cross member actually supports the center of the bumper and when anything including just a ball it is actuallt being bolted to the factory cross member.

The hitch that i'm describing mounts to the BOTTOM of the exhisting "bumper hitch" and the actual receiver would go below the bumper.

How about a picture? Then we'll know more about what you are trying to explain.

You apparently don't know what it looks like as that is exactly what I have been posting pictures of. Here is a early picture of my bumper with hitch installed.

No I bought the hitch when I first bought the truck in 2004. If you can wait until the end of March I'll sell you mine as I don't use it anymore. There should be plenty of them floating around for sale.
