Default Bumper Hitch to Class IV???

Hey guys. Just really quick. I have the factory bumper hitch on my 1500, and I know there is a add-on hitch that will make it a class IV. I'm having a hard time finding the right one tho, or where to get it. I have a 2004 1500 2wd if that makes a difference. Thanks for the help.

When you say bumper hitch, you don't mean a ball on your bumper right?...lol
I elieve the dealer is your best bet to get the class IV as most aftermarkets that i know of are only class III. That or find a Mopar dealer online.

I thought I remember seeing somewhere that the "bumper hitch" or the ball going through the bumper to the support under it, IS class III. And that adding the extra hitch to the bottom of that bumper support would make it a class IV.

Only class I and class II (2000 & 3500lb) can be bumper mounted. Class III has to be attached to the frame to be considered class III.

I believe this is what you are looking for.

I originally bought mine at the dealer.

Bumper hitches definitely are not Class III. Those are for jet ski trailers, small boats, etc.

I had the class IV hitch taken off my 03 Ram and put on my 08 and they had to redrill 2 hole in the frame, I had to have this hitch because I tow my offshore boat that weights 5300 lbs.

The factory "bumper hitch" has a support underneath that DOES go to the actual frame. I've been told that it is rated a Class II, and the addition of the support that RED TRUCK posted a pic of to the bottom of that frame support makes it a Class III.

If it is a factory tow package, it should be the class IV hitch.
