Default Thinking of switching to a Ram

New to Dodge, have always been a ford guy but found a 2007 ram i am interested in. It is a 1500 quad cab 4X4 with the hemi in it with 97,500 miles on it. The truck also has a 3" body lift with 35s. Some motor work done also, new cam larger throttle body, new intake, and headers with an electric cut out and high flow cats. The issues that the current owner has had was the tranny had to be rebuilt at 93000 miles, but he said it is from setting the shift points to aggressive so he went back to the stock shift points. Also he just replaced the passenger tie rod. Owner said the only thing needed is a wheel alignment. Truck looks very clean but i have no idea how reliable this truck would be because it sounds to me like he was very hard on the truck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You need a complete list of the modifications. Go over every detail with the owner so you understand what has been done and how to trouble shoot it if there is a problem. The dealer cannot help you with a modified Dodge. All you got is what you know about the truck and the forums to help with problems. It's current running condition and price would be the critical points for the sale. This could be the sweetheart deal of a life time or a nightmare. Good luck

Get a used-vehicle inspection at a good shop nearby, for $150 it was well worth it for me. Gave me an idea of what I would have to fix soon

^^ What he said. Unless you REALLY want the mods he has. Now there are plenty of people here that run similar mods and don't have issues, depends on how you treat it. See if you can talk him down to $13K and put $2k aside if **** hits the fan. He does have some relatively pricey mods on there, but the potential for failure is large with them also. You didn't even mention the diff, that thing could already be itching to blow

Sounds to me like the truck was modified for more power and driven hard. He's a bit high on the price for an '07 with almost 100k miles on it. You'd expect to find a stock '07 4x4 with around 40-50k on it for around $14-15k.
He's obviously trying to recoup a bit of his mod money in that price.

Personally, I'd look for more of a stock 4x4 with lower miles for that money, odds are a stock truck had an easier life, then I'd mod it myself the way I wanted it. I'd want to beat my truck to the ground myself, rather than buy one that someone else got to have fun with and left me with a truck that is gonna start to fall apart and require big repair bills soon...

I'd probably skip it, personally. I know what the electric exhaust cut-outs are intended for, but why on a lifted truck with 35's? Was he taking it to the track? Seems like a waste unless he was racing it occasionally.. I'm with Hammer on this, buy a stocker and mod it yourself. Plus you get the satisfaction of finishing it off exactly how you want it.
