Knock Sensors
Where are they located and can I pick them up at a local auto parts place. According to the guy writing my tune (Hemifever) my KR #'s are bouncing all over the place and my passenger side KR sensor is really picking up a lot of noise and im at a loss as to what could be the cause. So next weekend, along with pulling the heads and reinstalling the headers with new gaskets, I am thinking of just replacing the Knock Sensors at the same time. Hopefully pulling everything and checking it all out will help get the KR under control.
I always use the Dealer as you want a good/right/quality Part (at least in my case its always cheaper than Napa or other local parts retailers and cause i spent lots there I now get good discounts as well). Actually Truckin never looked for those KR sensors and now am curious as to where they are located. I'm gonna try the DSP Tune later this year and will keep that in mind when I am dealing with the person I find to tune it for me??.
i'm sure Weed or someone will chime in and tell ya where they are!

One each, black in color (or at least mine are) located on each side just below the exhaust manifold. I question the need to change them though, if one fails it will give a code. Very important to use a torque wrench if you are changing one out, easy to over-torque and break these suckers...
Well according to the tuner, it is true knock coming from right after a shift at WOT. So I dont know what else could be causing it at this point. For $10 and some change I can get a new one and go from there since the heads are coming off when we do the cam next saturday. Maybe the headers are causing some extra noise, but I cant hear or see and signs of an exhaust leak. I gotta take them off to get the heads off anyway so we can put them back in on a bench with the lockers and be sure they are in right and tight. I dont know what else could be causing it other than possibly the gas which has been change from the summer blend to a winter blend here, and thats a long shot. I guess I could grab some octain booster and see if it removes the KR and then see if the tuner can write a less agressive tune but I cant do much if its a gas issue.
Interesting that it comes in after WOT, I was gettin the rich 02 code after WOT and solved it with 02 bung but knock is not good for the mill for sure, maybe like Hammer says bump her back a tad and try again. But after the Cam is in you will have to adjust tune anyways and I imagine it prolly takes a few try's to get it right anyhow (when it comes to that custom tuning stuff!).

The tune is a custom pcm tune and I have had hemifever look at it and he has bumped it back quite a bit. The first revision was really quite nice til about 2 weeks ago and then I was getting more kr than I was the couple weeks before and that was at part throttle as well as wot. Now the part throttle looks ok but the wot is still giving me kr. Sean has told me though that he has never seen the kr bounce around so much so that's what's got me curious if its the sensors or the gas.
Sorry I just got to this. You already know where they are located now but how much are they. IDK and I havent looked. I do know as hammer said they need to be replaced with the proper TQ setting. Maybe some nice octane booster would help.....LOL
Yeah they are about $10-$15 and require 15ft-lbs to torque them down. I'll check them when we do the cam. I was thinking about adding some octane booster for the time being and see if that gets rid of it, if so I will have the tuner tune it down a fraction if it doesn't then that leaves the header noise I guess? and we will have to pay attention to them while we reconnect them.
