Inner & Outer Tie Rods Problems 2006
Ok so I had Tie rod problems, my Inner and outer tie rods were bad.
After Searching and searching, and still more searching..
Nobody list the Inner tie rod for an 06.
SO my next thought was replacing the whole rack. at 400 i really didnt want to do that.
So I searched out the Inners for an 05, well they were shorter by like 1" or so.. Damm..
Well i thought about it some more, what about the outers on an 05.. Longer by an 1" or so
The Inners Threads are the Same @ 24mm. the outers a 18mm
Stock 06 outers are 17mm..
So i ordered a Set (Inner & Outers) from my Napa.. $65
They came in the Next day, Pulled mine out, set them on the ground.
and threaded the 05s together till they matched, marked it and unscrewed it.
they were about 1.25" on the threads, I figured thats good.
The 05 inner and outers are bigger and beefier looking, and the threads are 1mm bigger.
So in short if you have problems with your 2006 inners you can replace the inner and outer Tie rods for about $70 bucks per side.
Also when i prced the outers form Napa they where $88 a piece. so its cheaper ding both, and they seem beefier.
Hope this Helps someone out there.
But i repeat if you do this YOU HAVE TO DO INNER AND OUTERS or it wont work.

Nice work!
Hope you got an alignment after all said and done?
Although, I've been able to replace tierods getting pretty critical on my measurements and getting them right on without an alinment!

Yeah i do an alignment myslef with a tape, within 1/16th" had it aligned at schwabs awhile ago for camber caster. but tierods doesnt mess with camber or caster so tape is goodnuff.
Well, technically they do. Anytime your wheel is turning either left or right, the camber is changing. That doesnt make a difference in your case though with the wheel pointed directly ahead; however, the toe does. rwd vehicles have a toe in while fwd vehicles have a toe out. That you cannot measure with a tape accurately unless you made before measurements and did one side at a time and then adjusted accordingly before moving to the next side.
Now, what I do is measure center-center of the balljoints which is the most accurate. or if I leave the inners on, I put a piece of tape or scrape a line on the inner and measure off that to the center of the BJ on the outer. Measuring from tire-tire or wheel-wheel is not accurate at all.

I know the Camber, and caster changes as the tires turns left or right as well as travels up or down. and toe in or out depends on vehicle specs, or driving style or both.
I adjust my toe, by a tape from tire to tire at a specific point, in front and back at the same amount. It has worked for me, i have had the truck in the alignment shop after i first leveled it and new tires.
But my other truck, and my car i have aligned myself, and have never had increased treadwear, or varied treadwear. and i should rotate my tires more but i dont, and i still havnt had any problems with treadwear.
But im not saying its perfect.
Most should go to an alignment shop and only use a tape to get there
