discount tire's wheels... balance issue
i've had this vibration above 50mph. took dodge 2 hours to balance and rotate tires. supposedly they had some troubles with 1 tire. it is balanced but it wobbles. They believe it is a bent rim. seems pretty unlikely that a wheel could have bent, unless the previous owner ran flat and didn't stop? I don't know. They are aftermarket wheels that are about $250 each.
I stop at Discount tire and they have 2 selections for $100 a wheel. The brands are vision wheel and mb wheels.
Does anyone have any advice on these wheels?
Or a site that would do reviews?
Does the name "Discount Tire" scare you and send you away running?
A salvage yard is offering me 4 steel OEM wheels for about $90 each...not sure what they look like...
Maybe it's time for a 2010 ram. Air conditioned seats? Heated Steering wheel? $34,000
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

A bent wheel would be blatenly visible when they are spinning it on the balancer.
What kind of tires do you have? The tire could have separated belts(manufacturer defect)
Discount tire is great. Bought a few sets through them.
Local salvage yards are a joke. They price everything off Dealers retail. Online salvage yards is where it's at.
Most guys are getting $400 for stock 20's and $300-350 for stock 17's.

Next time have them break the bead and rotate the tire on the wheel 45 degrees. Sometimes the way the tire is on wheel makes it hard to balance on the machine. Also I have found that sometimes the wheel just doesn't go on the balance centered and you need to loosen the screw and re-try to center the wheel on the balancer.
Also, Sometimes stick on weights make for a better to balance because you can put them on the inside of the wheel and compensate for dead spots on the tire better than rim weights.
Believe it or not alot of folks who balance don't know this and they just go by what the machine say. When they balanced my brand new tires I had 4 ounces of weight (8 1/2oz weights) in one spot on one of my wheels and still had horrible vibration. When I re-balanced them myself it went down to 1 ounce and even no weight on one of my wheels and now truck drive perfectly smooth.

All these electronic machines are "dumbing down" the majority of the population. Users rely too much on them and have no insight of their own. The mechanic at the dealership I went to was clueless without his starscan tool.
You clearly don't know anything about wheels and tires if you don't trust "discount tire" because it has discount in the name!!! It's the best company out there just go get your wheels and tires there.

It sounds to me like a bad tire. I've had tires do that. I left my wife's BMW in storage for a winter, only to come out with a flat spot on one of em, go figure. Also, like it was posted, the tech could see if a rim was bent.
Try spinning the tire on the rim 45* like traker said, if that doesn't cure it, just grab one new tire. Cheaper in the short term unless you need all four.
And to answer the question about Discount. I've used them in the past, all great results. They will even price match if you find something cheaper online, somewhere else, etc..
