i had the check engine light looked at today and thats the code it gave me (p0406) anyone now anything about this. the guy said it was an EGR sensor. possibly it needed to be cleaned or replaced, but he couldnt say for sure (this was at autozone). just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. i cant get it into the dealer until late next week. any suggestions.

Hopefully just a bad O2 sensor, no big deal really... $100CAD I believe if I recal correctly... Notice any preformance issues while driving?

none at all, idles fine, drives fine, gas mileage is high 12's, (for my driving that seems normal) nothing out of the ordinary, except for the check engine light. hopefully its a quick inexpensive fix ( with my luck it will cost about $500), but we'll see.

CAUTION: Do not start the engine between installing the EGR Valve and performing TSB 18-010-04 (PCM Flash Reprogramming). Both repairs must be performed before the engine is started

Please correct me if I'm wrong--but wouldn't this fall under warranty issues--as in --take it to the dealer?

normally yes, i did not buy the extended warranty and my truck has 38,000 miles on it (bought it used w/ 30,000miles on it). the dealer i bought the truck from did not impress me enough for me to keep taking my vehicle there. the warranty they wanted to sell me didnt seem that great.

You may want to take it into the dealer anyway. Most emissions related parts are waranteed longer than the bumper to bumper warantee lasts, especially if you are in Cali.

good point emissions should be 7/70,000 in all fifty states, i bought a Nissan pic up that had no factory warranty but it was still under federal emission warr. about $1500 worth of work for FREE.

Default Egr

The EGR is located near the altenator on the right side of the engine. 4 bolts, 2 8mm and 2 10mm.. take it off and careful not to lose the metal gaskets.. spray the valve down with carb cleaner and wipe it out.. pump the valve to make sure it plunges ok and replace. should fix your problem. Or you can replace the valve yourself new for about $45
