Default high idle on startup?

I'm assuming most, if not all, newer rams do this and it drives me nutz. Mine's an 07 qc, about 55k miles now, every time at startup it will idle high at about 1500 rpms for 15 seconds or so. Only reason it bugs me, is if u just jump in the truck, start it real quick and throw it into reverse, it will slam into gear. Anybody else notice this or have a problem with it?

Doesn't sound right to me. I've had mine since new and it has never done that.

My 08 hemi does the same thing, I just usually wait a bit till it settles down in RPM's.

seriously? My truck has done it since day 1 (bought it with 37k miles), and remember asking the same question on these forums when i first bought the truck, and everyone else had the same issue. Not a huge deal bc i use my remote start (aftermarket) to start it anyways, but it's still annoying

almost all new vehicles will idle at around 1500ish and go down over a minute or so.. Just part of the programming on cold start.. Starts to settle once both fuel systems go into closed mode after O2's heat up. hell the 94 yj wrangler i have does it.. my 06 ram, 08 ram, 06 ford escape all do it.. the '10 ranger we use to drive at work does it to..

Mine is an 04, it doesnt sit at 1500rpm. like you describe. When mine starts up, it shoots up to like 2200rpm then comes right back down. I hate that mine shoots up that high on start up, (no oil to the heads yet etc.) wish I could disable it. Maybe yours is different cause its newer than mine.

it does this to prevent dry startups...almost all new vehicles do this, it increases engine life and decreases wear on the rings

Mine has always done this. As long as I am not in a hurried state I let it idle down close to normal or at least 900rpms or less and then it slips into gear smoothly.
