Rear window shot out - fix or replace entirely?
My rear windshield is the factory dark tinted with manual slider in the middle. Today, I discovered that the passenger side panel was shattered, probably by a neighborhood kid's pellet gun. Don't know yet what it's going to cost to fix or if the entire windshield has to be replaced vs. just replacing the one broken panel. Anyone had a similar experience? Can the passenger side panel be replaced or does the entire window unit have to be replaced? Any idea what price tag I'm looking at here?
I guess I'm the only one. Oh well.
$500 deductible. I can get a oem replacement slider for a little less than $700 which will cost me $500. Or I can get a oem tinted solid rear window for $380 and not have to file an insurance claim at all and save a few bucks. I never really use the slider at all. Does anyone have a pic of the rear of your ram with a solid window in it?

I've used my slider once in 6 years. Maybe if it was a power slider I'd open it more often, but it's a PIA in a QC truck. If it were me, I'd get the solid one and screw going thru insurance.
BTW, did you check with your insurance company? I have no deductible on glass coverage...

Yeh Hammer, I did. I used to deal with local insurance providers but they just can't compete on rates anymore if one knows where to look elsewhere. My credit union now underwrites my policies and they do their own policy reviews for me every 6 months without me even asking and they contact me when there is a better deal available. So, I still get policies with national insurance companies but I'm not limited to local agents and their inflated rates. I will say, though, that the local policy I used to have did have provisions for glass damage (front windshields anyway) where I could have 1 per vehicle, per year, repaired or replaced with no deductible and no out of pocket cost. But I'm saving more per year in premiums than this window is going to cost me. I did check with my current insurer and glass damage is covered but is subject to my deductible.
I never used to put a lot of effort into saving a few bucks on insurance until my daughter got her license last year and we added a 3rd car. Now, every little bit helps until she gets a little older.

Here is a pic of my old 03, it had a solid window and it is really clean. With the power window in my 08, I use the rear slider on a weekly basis for one thing or another.. Power is the way to go if you go with a slider.. Otherwise, save a few bucks. Check out an old TOTM winner

I can do pix if ya really want. It's just a window. But my truck hasn't been washed since July. Window looks odd to me but I think it's as much because I lost my window stickers as much as it is changing from the slider to solid glass. At least the sound and cold have stopped coming in.
