Default 2005 Dodge Ram 1500-4.7 L- Future upgrade Questions

Alright so my truck is nearing 50,000 Miles, and is getting close to needing a tune up. I am wanting to change all fluids to Royal Purple, Ceramic Brake pads, E3 Spark plugs, New spark plug wires, new Cat-Converter and Cat back system, and headers eventually, and an AirRade CAI system. Some of these are long term goals obviously. But is there anything else that may help with getting better gas mileage?

Also, what all can I get to help clean up the engine compartment, to get rid of the white bottles (windshield wash fluid container and such) and can you get new covers for it and anything to cover the radiator? If so where can I find them?

Stay away from the e3 spark plugs, They're great in "Theory" but thats about it... I had gone to the iridium bosch +4 fusion or w/e plugs.... 3 of them were causing misfire codes... I mean some people have great luck with them... I went with the regular 3 dollar bosch plugs... and not only did i save money, but to be honest our trucks werent designed to run on those fancy plugs anyways.

As for the new cat convertor, unless your going for performance aspects... 50k miles is low, and you know the saying "If it aint broke dont fix it". +1 On the royal purple fluids (or checkout redline they're pretty good as well" ... You cant do new spark plug wires because you have individual coils over each plug.... And they can be expensive... Most of your mods your looking at will help with fuel efficiency... but sometimes that means burning more fuel because ... essentually thats what your doing is not wasting as much fuel and burning every last drop.
Good luck with your mods.... I have a K&N FIPK, Stock headers & cat.... 1 into 2 Flowmaster Exhaust and Superchips 3815... also did the power wire mod... i average 13mpg around town... 20-22 on the highway (5-spd manual trans)

I wouldn't use the E3 spark plugs. The 4.7 likes the champions copper sparks plugs the best. You should just make your own cold air intake, works just as good as the 200 dollars ones. there are plenty of instructions of how to build them on here just do a search. then the 4.7 doesnt have spark plug wires, it has coils, and i wouldn't mess with them. unless your cat is throwing a code i wouldn't change it.

What is a good cat back system for my truck? I was thinking about going with the flowmaster American thunder. Would this be a good one to go with? Also what is a good chip to go with?

Im surprised no one has mentioned an electric fan yet. I run RP in everything on my truck and feel better using it. I would also stick with OEM plugs. A lot of guys do make their own CAIs. I also made my own but without all the joints like others have. It functions the same but looks a lot better IMO.

Depending on your tire size, differential gear ratio and driving style/routes/terrain, you may benefit from lower gears. A lot of these trucks have 3.55 ratio gears, and with the 4.7 you may see a bit better mileage in town/hilly terrain driving with lower gears ( higher numerically like 4.10 or even 4.56). If you have the 3.92 gears, then you may not see as much benefit and it may hurt some on the highway. If you tow or haul and weight at all, then they would help.
I found that the Superchips tuner set to "towing" made a 1-2 mpg difference in town driving.

Superchips or diablo will be best bang for your buck, and also gears. Like said above^^^

Magnaflow is where its at. Dont go flowmasters. Although to me straight piped sounds the best and I leave my cut out open constantly. Use the search button to get tons of threads about gears, programmers, cai's, efans and other do it yourself mods like the sonnax or power wire

I meant magnaflow. Which system would be a good one? I want a good sound from it.
