4wd 101
I have an 03 ram with a 4.7.
I am not sure the 4wd is working properly.
Do the front wheels engage/disengage? Is there some type of automatic hub or are they engaged all the time?
Do the front wheels turn the axles and driveshaft when in 2wd?
It sounds like I am in in 4wd. I can tell the transfer case is in 2wd (When I put it into 4wd I can feel the wheels bind when turning slow).

It is making a noise. Maybe "drone" is the right word. It is most noticable if I get it up to 45 -50 and left off the gas. It may be more noticable because the RPMs are low and the engine is quiet.
Seems to fade out below 25mph. At times it is more noticable than others.
It sounds like it is coming from the front end. It seems to be more effect by vehicle sped and not engine's RPM's.

Roaring / droning / humming starting about 25 MPH is exactly what my driver side wheel bearing did when it was wearing out. Eventually it starts to sound like a loud mud tire.
If it's a wheel bearing, it should be pretty easy to determine which 'side' it's coming from. It was easy to hear that my front driver side bearing was the one going bad.
