I'd take it back in to check the charge. My 04 is fine...it gets cold, no probs. I've never had to run recirc so far---normal is plenty cold.

I have a 04 and i noticed that myself too. I have to have it recirculated to be real cold. As big as the engine is, it should be freezing in there. So i know what you mean. Also depends where you live, cause humidity is worse so its hotter and you really want it to be alto colder.

I will try to explain this like my father, who repairs A/Cs, explained it to me. However, you probably should have your A/C charged first to be sure it at least has freon. An A/C unit does not cool the air, it takes the heat out of it. I hope that makes sense, it didn't to me. Anyway, the hotter it is outside, the less efficient your A/C appears to work. When you recirc the air in your truck, some heat is taken out, then on the next pass (to keep it simple) more heat is taken away. This way it appears to work better than drawing the outside air in. Humidity seems to change the variables as well. Again, I hope this makes sense.

Scratch did a good explanation and here is a way to test it yourself.

Any AC unit can only drop the temp across its coil around 20 degrees with a good charge.

That means if its 85 outside, you can only cool the air down to 60 and that's it.

If you recirculate the air, the air temp in the truck starts to drop, thereby the ac drops the cooler air by 20 degrees, etc.

You should NEVER run your ac without the recirc on. If you really want it to cool.

My Phoenix truck (2003 Hemi Quad 4x4 with tow) runs very cold. Average June high temperatures are 108 degrees - the truck remains cool inside (or maybe it's just a dry heat).

My Quad Cab gets cold enough to form icicles on my twig and berries.
And that was last week at 96 degrees and 90% humidity. (Feels like you're sitting in Hell)

No problems here. Mine gets cool on either setting even if it's screaming hot out.
