Question about E85 capability
Just the other day I happened to notice the inside of my fuel door has a E85 symbol beside the unleaded fuel symbol. However, my truck doesn't have the FlexFuel badge on the tailgate. Common sense dictates there should be a difference between vehicles with the badge and without.
I have a '07 1500 4.7 quad cab. Should that be able to run on E85? E85 is around a dollar cheaper per gallon so it's well worth the slight loss of mpg.

If vehicle is not setup or tuned for E85 it wouldn't be a good idea to try using it. Could end up with a very lean condition as it takes more fuel with E85 vs gas to get comparable air fuel ratios. Plus it may be cheaper but in longrun you are using more E85.
E85 is a great fuel to use for a poweradder in a high power motor as it makes for a far cheaper alternative over race fuels. For everyday use I wouldn't bother.

Well, I know that you're not supposed to use E85 unless the vehicle is specifically designed for it. That's my question: is my truck able to use it?
I've done a little research and the numbers I've seen show that E85 will get about 20% worse efficiency. Therefore if E85 is at least 20% cheaper than gas, it is a good buy (assuming it won't wreck my engine haha)

I was under the assumption all '05 and later 4.7s in Ram 1500s ARE approved for E85 use.
However, I dunno if you will benefit by it. Even the Govt. EPA rates a 25% loss in fuel economy using E85 over 100% pure gasoline (about 20% loss over 10% Ethanol gas) and some independent studies have the number closer to 35% in some vehicles. So for the buck savings per gallon, it may cost you more in the long run...

Where do you guys live by that has e85?? In all my travels I have yet come across a e85 pump. I drive a flex fuel f150 would like to try it out and compare mileage for myself. The closest we got is Mohawk/husky which sells blended fuel so up to 10% ethanol. Plus side is their premium is 94 octane.
And for whoever was asking about where to buy E85... I fill up at a local Kroger and they have E85. And I'm in Texas.
I have not seen it in Georgia at all (although I'm rural and no where near Atlanta where I'm told they have it. I've seen only a few stations in Florida with it. I was in NY & Conn. this past July for a golf tournament I play in every year and to visit family and it seemed like every station I stopped at up there had it...

I ran it in my truck. It was alright, its so hard to find though so i havent continued to run it.
Your first tank has to be around 1/4 gas and 3/4 ethanol. Also never put less than 1/4 tank ethanol in. I didnt see a noticeable power difference but could almost watch my fuel gauge go down.
Not all 4.7s 06-up are e85 compatible but if you have a yellow cap you are game.
