Default Cam swap on hemi 4x4

So lately Ive been stewing on the idea of getting a more aggresive cam for my truck(I enjoy the sound). Basically I want something with a noticeable lope but not completely kill my low end torque. I tow my Supra to the track every once in a while and my trailer weight is about 5500lbs with the car....nothing ridiculous but its still a good bit of weight. any ideas, opinions, cams you may be running?

I run a custom grind in my Hemi Magnum from Inertia Motorsports

They are Hemi specialists there and probably have the cam you are looking for. I know a few years ago that the trucks didnt have the tuning options that the cars do, but they may have changed.

Since you already have a DSP you are half way there with what you need. The question is do you want to get a simple and canned tune cam or go bigger and more power and pay to get custom tuned?

I dont mind If I have to get tuning. My only requirement is still being able to tow my trailer without any problems. I know with cams its give and take.

With towing I would go with a more torque oriented cam. Inertia Crazy Jay, Comp 260, HHP 260, or FRI Sidewinder would be good with canned DSP tunes but would run even better with custom tuning. You could also go with a KRC 210 or 210x, but they need custom tuning.

If you do a search you will find many threads on these cams.

Rick,

My name is Joe "Hemi-Joe" Sewell and I own a moderately modified 04' Hemi Ram. I modified my Ram (Zeus) back when all this was new. I went through KRC, but Marty is a dumb ***. My cam is the KRC 220. Most Mopar custom tuning is performed by Dave of B&G Chrysler Performance Tuning.

I recommend going through Shop Hemi.com which is Arrington Motors in Martinsville Virginia. If you don't know who they are, they build Dodge Nascar engines and also seem to be the authority on these new Hemis. There is also Indy Cylinder Heads, but they dicked my buddy around with his 408 Dakota. I hope this helps.

As far as towing, I haven't noticed any "give" as you call it. Zeus still towes fine, however be prepared for driveshaft issues as that is the next weekest link. Mine was twisted in half on the dyno at 130 mph and climbing! I think Zeus was trying to hit a Mufflerstang with it. Also, to avoid diff issues, get a bigger cover for the rear diff to help with cooling. I guess my point is; you need to look at the big picture and not focus on just the Hemi. If you make onr thing stronger, the next weakest link will eventually fail! Good luck.
