Yet another newbie with some 4.7L questions
I just purchased a 2006 Quad Cab Thunder Road edition 2WD with the 4.7L V8. I was reluctant to purchase it due to wanting one with the Hemi, but I got a great deal on it, so I went ahead and got it. I am new to the Ram community, but not to Dodge. I traded in my 98 single cab Dakota on this which I had bought new. I loved that truck, but with 2 kids now, a single cab does me no good. Anyway, I have been on the forum so much over the past few weeks that my eyes are dried out. I figured I would just ask for opinions now that I have done a little research. I love my new truck, but I want more power(as do we all). It has a SI/DO Flowmaster exhaust on it already. As far as I can tell, that's the only thing not stock. I am putting on a CAI(True-Flow XDI) on it this weekend and just received my Diablo Predator tuner yesterday. I am planning on a set of JBA shorty headers soon as well as a Magnaflow y-pipe. Long term plans will include a H/O intake manifold, 68.5mm throttle body, and new cams(suggestion anyone?), and maybe 4.56 gears. I am by no means a mechanic, but I would love to do most of this myself. This is not my daily driver, so that helps a lot seeing as how I can take my time to do things right. I would like more low end torque for hauling, but also more get up and go. Any suggestions on what to start with and what order to do these mods in? Can someone with limited experience handle a header swap? What about cams and a new manifold? Also, as for the tuner, I know there are a buncha threads on it, but should I just do a canned tune for now until I change the cams and headers? What gears would you recommend for it since I have 3.92's now? Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum,
I would suggest talking to Airram and going to his website. He's a 4.7L motorhead as he's got one himself all done up. Many guys have gone to him and have been very happy. He can tell you gear/cam combo's but I'm pretty certain 4:56's are a winner in most cases with the 4.7L?
Do your local inspection laws permit LT headers? need cats? LT's would be the way to go to really wake that beast up. Shorties are good for towing and are a mild improvement, but if your spending that much money you may want to get something to make a difference. Again, if your local laws allow it?
