Gear Pros wanted, pattern analysis
Yeah, I posted in general but basically, I think we may have somehow damaged a pinion bearing as I'm getting a whine at about 40 MPH while cruising. I suspect that because we had to remove the pinion gear after it was installed and there's that potential to damage bearings and the races there so I'm ordering new bearings and races. That's the only thing I can think of what it could be as that was the most questionable part of the whole project.
one thing I do notice is that the "slack" from backing up from the driveway, then putting in drive and taking of, is completely gone.
I probably don't have to, but I'm babying it until I get the new bearings/races in and then it's off to the shop. The whine hasn't gotten worse and sometimes I think it's even getting quieter. But it's still there so ... plus, it'd be nice to talk to a pro and see if I was off and if so, how far, on the adjustments.
