Default 2500 Ram Mirror Issues

When the mirrors are rotated into the up (tow) position they (espically the right side) does not always want to adjust. This typically happens with both sides however the right side is worse. When it was rotated to the normal position the mirror would not move from in/out. Was wondering if the harness in the swivel could be getting bad and if so is it easy to disassemle the mirror and get to those wires.

I am pretty good with wiring.

Or is there something else I should be looking at.

By the way, is there something out there that tells me how to take the mirrors apart?

if your truck is still under warrenty, then you can just go to the dealer and they will replace them for free...as long as there is no physical damage your good. Bad wiring is beyond your control and a cause to get new ones...

Dang it.

Do you speak from experience? Because I would like to take mine apart as well (for a different issue, though), but have not successfully figured out how to do so. Obviously unbolting it from the door would be fairly straight forward, but how the heck do you get the rest of the mirror apart? I have partially "spread" the cracks open on mine, but it appears it is held together with a bunch of tiny plastic clips that almost look like a "one-time-deal".

I think in the service manuals it tells you how to remove the glass from the mirrors. From there maybe you can finish taking them apart.

Thanks for the help. I will try removing the glass in the spring. Probably shouldn't do this in the winter time. And of course there is no warranty so the dealer won't help me there.

Look in the Gen 2 forums as I seen a few posts on Modding Gen 3 mirrors for a Gen 2.

Standard mirrors:
There are 3 retaining clips you need to disengage. You need to move the mirror far left/right to access these clips. There's 2 on the outer part and 1 on the inside top corner. The whole assembly will come off after that leaving a shell and mirror attached to the motor frame. Becareful if you've got heated glass as they will be plugged in on short leads. There is a retaining clip on the bottom backside of the glass you need to release. After that, the glass sides up and then out.

Tow mirrors:
From the botttom side of the glass, look between glass and housing for the retaining clip(in the middle) Release it and the mirrors comes off.

Are talking about the black plastic "skin" portion of the mirror?
