I have a 2004 1500 Ram 5.7L Hemi w/ 57000 miles on it. The check engine light just came on and my code reader gives a P 406 code. Egr valve problem. The factory service manual doesn't show an egr valve in the index much less where it is on this engine. Any help with this would be appreciated.
It's an easy replacement and usually one usually lasts from about 40,000 miles to 60,000 depending on factors like driving conditions, etc.
Dealers usually charge about $75 for the part and $90 for the install, but you can get one at an auto parts store for about $35 and change it yourself in about 10-15 minutes with just a standard socket set.
Be thankful you have a Hemi, it's right up front and easy to get to as opposed to the 4.7 where it's against the fire wall and can be a bi*ch to reach.
