chrome intakes CAI
so i was doing some looking around on ebay and saw the chrome intakes CIA. i dont see how theres too much of a way to go wrong with an intake but just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with these before, And they have two options. one with the intake hat that connects to the tb and the full version that goes all the way to the tb.
I just got the full version and it works great, easy to install.
I tossed the air filter that came with it (cheap knock-off) and got and larger conical style K&N filter which did require me to cut and shorten the one section of pipe so that it fit down behind my headlight.

Installation on these kits are extremely easy, there's not much to mess up.
I'm sure this has been covered but, a chrome cold air intake, actually isn't a "cold" air intake. I say this due to the fact that the nice chrome metal part will conduct alot of heat to the inner walls of the intake and preheat the air, basically defeating the purpose of a "cold" air intake, aside from the smooth bents making it easier for the air to flow. If you are going for a show look, rather than a functional approach then this is the way to go, if not I'd spend the cash and get a K&N, AIRAID, etc.

I've got a chrome K&N and have made about a dozen now for guys out of PVC at about 1/5 what I paid for my K&N six years ago.
Measuring intake temps the heat difference at the TB is negligible. 3-5 degrees at most. HOWEVER the chrome tube is louder and really amplifies the flutter of the EGR valve a good bit more than plastic or PVC tubes...

I have read numerous threads about this EGR flutter but have yet to notice it myself, I really dont hear anything abnormal.
It does sound deep and throaty when you put your foot in it.

It is true the metal ones will heat soak but incoming air through the filter at high speeds will not carry much heat with it in the engine. Ive used one for years and never had any issue although I recently swapped over to a custom PVC CAI.
