Default Changed out headlight bulb and oooops :(

Hey guys dunno how much this lil mistake is going to cost me. But my passenger side bulb went out so picked up a new one at the store today. Got home, pulled out the headlight assembly easy enough. Gave a twist and the bulb popped out so far so good. Problem is when i went to disconnect the bulb I pulled the red tab back and gave the bulb a wiggled I guess your supposed to pull up on the clip, but long story short I broke the little tab off when i pulled the bulb out. I was pretty suprised it broke so easily.

Just wondering if anybody on here broke theirs and how much did it cost to replace or did u just leave it broke?

Like I can slide the new bulb in place but with no clip it does not lock into place. I just put the assembly back together and just hoping the bulb stays put.

You should be able to visit a pick 'n' pull to get an entire assembly, or at least enough of the wiring to splice in a replacement socket. Just use solder, electrical tape and heat-shrink tubing.

Default A Related Question

I pulled a headlight assembly to change a bulb and gave myself a problem. I had to unscrew two inboard bolts and pop an outboard knuckle / ball joint to get the whole assemble out.

Now I'm having trouble getting the ball to "pop" back in its joint. The little "ball on a stick" is loose, it wiggles around and doesn't seem to want to pop back in its hole as it is obviously meant to do. Can anybody tell me that works? I suppose there's a trick to getting the ball to re-enter the hole and be seated securely or somehow mine is broken.

Its pretty hard to get it to pop back in. Not in skill, I mean, but in force. If you cannot get it in, pull the socket off the ball and push it where the hole is, and then press the headlight assembly into that. Sometimes the sockets will come off like that anyway.

Default The Socket?

Matt,

When I popped the ball / joint thing to free the headlight assembly, the ball came out of the socket and the socket stayed behind in what seems to be the socket hole. I assume you meaqn by "socket" the little black cross -like thing the ball should fit in. (In that case, the socket didn't come out of the hole.) I have jammed the heqadlight assembly pretty hard trying to seat the ball back in the socket, but it doesn't seem to want to go in and stay. Are you saying I should pry the socket out of its hole, fit it over the ball and then jam the socket back in its hole?

You can, but generally they should stay on the truck anyway. Just make sure they are lined up and press strait in. It doesn't exactly just slide in, you gotta man up (as with most stuff on your truck)

Superglue it back in place...........LOL

Seriously though, I have a Mopar electrical connector link if you want to order the plug and pigtail but I would either leave it alone or go the junk yard as said above.

Ahhhh yea I'll prolly just leave it. Or throw some tape on it. Just knowing I got a busted part on the truck annoys me a little bit. Just curious how much are those connectors worth new?
