Heat...whats the problem?

Default Heat...whats the problem?

when i start my 2002 dodge ram,4.7 engine i have a problem with no heat .after driving for a few miles the engine temperature goes into the red zone.a few times the temperature dropped back to normal and then the heat started.till yesterday.is my thermostat sticking and needs to be replaced?

If you havent replaced the thermostat, now would be a good time. Your problem is likely an air pocket. Park the truck nose up, take the radiator cap off (wait till truck is cool of course), and run until it is up to operating temp. Might have to do this a few times.

T-stat is where i would start but do some searching and reading and you will find most overheating in 4.7's results in or from blown head gaskets or cracked heads.

the way my dad is explaning it, it just sounds like the thormostat.

With a 4.7 you will be lucky if thats all it is since it has already been in the red zone a few times

Cross your fingers man.

I had a 4.7 before I got my current truck, and the reason I got rid of it actually was because the head gasket(s) blew

Yep. Mine was close to the red but didn't actually get there and it is shot. This engine really doesn't tolerate that kind of heat.

Thermostats are cheap and easy to swap out. I would give that a whirl.
