just a little about my truck first,,,,,,,, 2002 ram slt 4x4, 4.7 engine, automatic.
i picked the truck up for $2500.00 just before christmas,,the truck was parked for 2 years because there was an issue with the transmission..long story short i fixed it,, the flat filter fell out of place with the o-ring still stuck to it. i also had to replace right side cv axle the splines were stripped in the axles where it slides on to the diff.
the tranny works good now.. i drove for a week with no axle in the right side and i had no shakes or vibrations,,, last week we had a snow storm so i bought an axle stuck it in and it works great but now i have a vibration and a tinging noise coming from the front drive shaft area.
now i jacked it up and and spin the left front wheel and i noticed that the front drive shaft is spinning with it but not the right.
my question is, is the front drive shaft supposed to spin with the wheel in 2x4, or not at all untill 4x4 is locked in. also i have manual shift transfer case not electric....
i know i'm going to have to take the cover off to take a peak, but i figured i would ask first.... i don't know anything really about 4x4's but i'm not scared to get my hands dirty.
