buy a HEMI, its less than a 1k option. From what I have seen on here the fuel economy isnt that far off and the hemi has a 110 more hp. As I saw it on one post saying, " I have never seen anyone wishing they had bought less of a motor". I guess if it were 2wd std cab the 4.7 is okay. I drove the 4.7 and I dont think I would use peppy and the 4.7 in same sentence. You can look at some of the older posts on the same topic. My first experience was driving a truck that the salesman said had a hemi but actually had a 4.7. I asked how it could be so week when I had only heard good things about the hemis power, popped the hood and it was a 4.7. If you drive a hemi, you will, NEVER want to drive a 4.7 again.

Like he says. At less than a grand for the Hemi, it's really no choice.

If your going with a RC 2WD, then the 4.7L is OK, but I'd make sure I'd get the 3.92 rearend. If you're going to tow anything with some weight, you'll probably rather have the Hemi.

I really like my 4.7. I have a 2005 QC with the 3.92 and 20's. I drive my Hotel's Durango a few times a week, and it's got the HEMI. Personally, I like my truck much much better. The HEMI is great, but here's my advice. If you're buying right away and looking for mpg....do a 4.7. If you can wait a few months, hold off for a 2006 HEMI with the 4 cylinder deactivation. That's what I would have done if my salesman wouldn't have lied to me and told me that absolutely nothing was going to be different about the 2006s.

yeah, is there really another choice. Its a no brainer for a grand. If you wait for the 06 and the deactivation then look a the front end on them. Its ugly. I bought my 05 for that reason and I knew well inadvance before my purchase about the MDS system. I will take the lower gas mileage than to look AT THAT FRONT END EVERYTIME. mAYBE IT WILL GROW ON ME LIKE MANY OTHER BODYSTYLES BUT...I wouldnt hold my breath. Beside the 05 are giveaways. My truck is a QC 4x4 with 17" off road rims and 3.92 rear end with the hemi, I wouldnt want anything less.

Thanks for the help everyone. I did not make a purchase today because we could agree on numbers, but hopefully it will happen soon...

I've had my '05 ST reg cap hemi (3.92 limited slip) less than a week and I cannot imagine getting the smaller engine. It moves well. However, if you decide on a 4.7 I'd heartily recommend getting the 6-speed so that you can determine when it shifts gears. Constant shifting of the auto with the 4.7 is a common complaint.

The only problem I've had with the hemi was a kid in a like truck with the 4.7 nearly running over me today looking at my truck. I've removed all the emblems but those for the hemi and he seemed to have some trouble figuring out if my otherwise stealth gray, plain-jane truck was for real.

Like others have said, go hemi, if you have the choice.
