Default engine swap vin "N" for "J" 4.7

What is the difference between a 4.7 with vin N and a 4.7 with J
my `02 ram 4.7 is burning antifreeze and the timing chains are slapping.
can I replace a "J" 4.7 for a "N" 4.7
also can a diffenrent engine be put in it`s place maybe a larger one

thanks

Welcome to the site. While I dont know much about the 4.7's or the difference in those you are asking about, I do know a lot of guys have cooling and overheating issues with the 4.7's.

If you are inclined enough to swap engines? Why not pull the heads, have them checked and rebuilt and replaced the head gaskets and put it all back together. Im sure that would be more cheap than replacing an engine.
