Lift and Tires

Lift and Tires
I'm a newb to trucks. I've got a 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 with sport trim and 17' wheels. The stock tires are too small for the truck. How much lift would I need to go to a 31 or 33 inch tire, and could I get by with a body lift or would I need a suspension lift. I'm not going to do much 4 wheelin, just want it to look better.
Thanks

According to my recent copy of Petersen's 4Wheel & Off Road, you can get up to 32x11.50's on a stock 2004 Ram 1500 4x4.. 33's would require some minor fender trimming or a lift.. I feel your pain.. I have an '04 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad-Cab with the 20" wheels and 275's and they still look tiny.. [&o]

What about this, I saw it on another thread- http://www.truxxx.com/dodge_products...m_lift_kit.htm do these things work for appearance purposes to get a 33inch tire

RE: Lift and Tires
You shouldn't need a lift to put 33's on your truck. My 2004 QC 4x4 came from the factory with 275/60R20's. If you plug that into a tire size calculator, it comes out to 33x10.83/20. Quite a few companies sell 33x10.50 or 11.50 I think, even tho 12.50 is the more common size.
I personally have 33x12.50/17's on order, and have no doubt they will fit fine (altho I bought rims with 1/2" less backspacing.)
I also know that KORE products, supposedly the premier suspension company in the world for Dodge Rams, claims that their 2" lift will easily clear 35" tires for full offroad use.
Hope that helps.

This site has a suspension upgrade that will raise the truck allowing for larger tires. The great thing is, that it isn't a lift kit, just better shocks and springs

I personally don't have time for a company that won't return my calls. Especially not when their top end suspension package is roughly 3x the cost of anything else on the market.
