Default EGR Valve

I just replaced an EGR valve on my 2006 Dodge Ram 4X4 5.7 Hemi and now it makes a clicking noise when I accelerate. The check light went off and everything else seems to be fine except for the noise. I even replaced the gaskets but it still makes the noise. Any ideas on what to do would be appreciated.

Was it clicking/knocking before you changed the EGR valve? Might just be the valve, did you buy OEM or aftermarket? I think I read in the general discussion forum that the 5.7 is notorious for a clicking or knocking sound when running at idle. I have 2007 5.7 HEMI and noticed a knocking noise today when I started it up. You can check with your local dealer but they"ll probably tell you the same thing.

No, it was not clicking at all before I changed it. I had never noticed it making this noise before I changed it. I bought an after market valve from Advance Auto so it may be just a bad EGR valve.

exhaust manifold bolts are very common for breaking that would tick. if all those are still in tact make sure you tightened everything down snug just to verify

I guess my question is WHAT is clicking? You are being clear IMO. You changed the EGR and now it is ticking. So is the EGR ticking (normal in some cases) or the engine ticking? If it is the EGR then take it back and try another. If it still does it then live with it. If it is not the EGR but something else then please let us know so we can further help you out

The EGR valve is what is ticking not the engine. The old EGR valve did not sound like this one. I even replaced the gaskets and tightnened it down a little harder, but it still makes the noise. I will probably take it back and get a new one and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

Cool. Glad thats all it is. And at this point you have the right idea. Swapping it out is all you can do. The clicking it nothing but the valve actuating open and closed over and over.
