Default Headlight issues, done homework.

Hi, I am having issue with a low beam headlight on the drivers side.
Lights are stock bulbs look original.
Both high beams work.
Low works on passenger side.
I have installed 2 new H13 bulbs with no success.
Fuses are good.
The inside of the housing looks good, ie. not gummed up or dirty.
Now when I probe the terminals of the socket I can get good voltage readings on both the left and right side, being the white wires with the blue and green stripes respectively. The readings are with the red leed of the meter into the socket and the black one on the negative battery terminal.
If I tried to get a reading with the black leed on the center terminal of the socket (not that this is correct by any means) I get no reading on either side.
The grounds attached to the side of the tipm look good and are tight.

Any other in site would be really appreciated before going to the dealer.
Thank You

Check with DirtyDog on this one and see if he can help you out. My first thought it the TIPM

Thanks Weed, that was what my rescearch was leading too but was thrown off by actually getting voltage readings on both sides.
Thanks.

You would have to probe the black wire to the +12v as the black is a ground. If there is a ground path provided by the tipm, there will be 12v+ of voltage drop. If there is 0v, then you should read your DTC codes and see if there are any active codes that have popped up. These dont throw the CEL, so you need to use a good scan tool, or a tuner. My Advance auto scan tool doesn't pick up any of the headlight stuff. I have to use my Cortex for that.

im thinking my TIPM is bad. I dont have brake/reverse lights. Just one bad change in voltage can fry the thing

Thanks dirty dog, when I had the black probe on the black wire and probed the two outside ones, I only got a very slight reeding less than one volt if anything. Side, note is that one of the advantages of the Cortex over the 3865 or do they both do the same job in that department? I have held off on buying one up till now, but the code reading ability makes good justification when the shop rate is 120$ per hour plus 13% tax.

Unhappy

Also I just cycled the key 3 times just to see if it would show any codes and it doesn't. I also disconnected the battery and left it for 20 min and tried it again with a new bulb with no luck. So I guess it is off to the dealer in the morning to get raped. Thanks for all the input, I will follow up to let you guys know how it turns out.

Any superchips will pull the DTC's. Your 3865 should pull them.

Update, turnes out it is the tipm and the cost to repair with parts and labour with negotiated discount is going to be 870$. I asked if the replacement part was going to be any different ie have they fixed the problem and they said that they don't know till it comes in. Oh and it is back ordered too. I am going to get the old part and cut it open and post pics to show if there is something that could be done differently.
