Truck: 2004 Ram 2500 V6TD 6Spd

I posted earlier and would like some additional info.

#1 I am looking for a way to put a kill switch into my newly bought truck in an effort to twart a would-be car thief. On my gasoline cars, I usually tap the Fuel Pump fuse, hide a switch somepace in the cab and that does the trick.

A member here suggested doing the same to the high pressure fuel pump. Today I popped the under-hood fuse box open to look for where I could tap into it's circuit. The fuse box legend had a number of abbrivations that I was not familar with and not wanting to pull random fuses, I failed to find a "kill" fuse.

Note, I did see a starter fuse and relay, but the problem with tapping them is that my truck is a stick - it could be pop-started quickly as I live on a hill. Also, cranking a big truck like this makes a lot of noise that will deter a would-be car thief if the truck does not fire up. I would like to shut off the fuel flow to the engine either via the high pressure pump or by shutting off the ECU. Ideas?

#2 My truck did not come with a user manual and there are a few things that I would like to 'look up'. A helpful member posted a link to shop manuals and user manuals for a 1500-series truck, which unfortunately lacked data for my Turbo Diesel rig. Does anyone have a digital copy of the manual for a 2004 2500 TD?

You should be able to download a manual from Dodge. You could probably put in something which will interrupt the PCM circuit.

 

How about an alarm with start interrupt? Kill two birds with one stone.

You could put any switch on the 12v side of the starter pump though.

Pin 1 is ground and Pin 4 is 12v

 

Sorry not too familar with Diesels (yet). What is the function of the Starter pump? Is there no way to fire up the engine without it? That picture looks like under the hood, but I dont remember seeing anything like it. Where exactly is it?

 

That picture is the top of the fuel pump on a gas engine. Sorry, I didnt see you had a CTD.

Weedahoe, you have been super helpful man! Really appreciate it! I was going to start a new thread on this, but since I got you here I thought you might know. Despite my somewhat simplistic questions (I find that I get more answers that way), I am a bit of a gear head. This is however my first experiance with a diesel - something that I have been interested to dive into. Are there any books or online resources that you can recomend that explain some of the details about diesel engines, general theory as well as common troubleshooting and repair? Not really dodge specific, I am just as intrested in marine diesel applications...

 

So if a 12v switch is put on pin 4 then my truck wont start unless that switch is on? That sounds like a fun mod.

 

messing with stuff under the hood and such is a lot of work.. I would suggest just using a relay to interrupt the ignition 1 wire at the ignition harness, or the starter wire at the ignition harness, or the 12 volt constant wire that provides power to the ignition wires.

although I may as well ask do you have the black key or gray key.. if you have the gray key there is really no point to going through the work. If a thief trying to steal your truck knows how to get around the chrysler sentry key.. any starter/ignition disables the guy is just gonna laugh and get around it no issue.

Weedahoe, I did a bit of googling, and the picture you posted looks a lot like the top of the in-tank fuel pump. That said, wouldnt disabling this be bad for the high pressure pumps down the line? If the tank pump is disabled, won't the high pressure pump run dry and burn out? Or is it smart enough to turn off when you run out of fuel?
