i have a 05 ram 1500 when i first crank my truck up there is a loud ticking sound but after my truck heats up it stop what is this and what can i do to fix this?

 

4.7? Mine does the same thing, goes away when warm. It's done it for the last 100,000 miles or so. dillegent maintainence, oil changes, coolant changes, etc. it should be fine.

 

run synthetic oil...

 

Check ALL of those exhaust manifold bolts also for broken or loose ones and run that syn oil like said above

 

if i run the syn oil that will stop the loud knockin when i crank it up......and all the manifold bolts have been replaced its been making a loud knocking sound when i first crank it up for the past 2yrs and then when it warms up it stops

 

Ah ok. Synthetics cant hurt. A lot of guys switch over to synth to stop any ticking. However, since you have replaced the manifold bolts, if the synth oil doesnt stop it then you may need to replace push rods any/or rocker shafts as there may be excessive wear on them and causing the tick

i run amsoil 0w-30 on my 05 ram with 198k miles...

 

I have a 05 with 49k miles, have used synthetic oil for over a year now and my truck does the same thing, ticks, not really loud, but ticks for a couple mins until it warms up. Don't know what's up with it. Also having my steering feeling too tight. Any answers?

 

My 4.7 would do that on every cold start since I bought it (with just under 4,000 miles on it). I had the truck in the shop recently, and one of the things they did while in there was to replace the timing chain tensioners. The cold tick sound is now completely gone.
