My 05 has the 4.7, I will have to remember that. How much did they charge you to repair/replace the timing chain tensioners?

It was done under warranty for a different issue. While driving 55 down the hwy, I had the pin that holds the right cam in place on the timing sprocket shear in half. I know, YIKES!

They replaced the entire right head (all new internals), timing chain sprocket, tensioners, timing cover and looks like the cover came with a water pump attached since it looked just as shiny as everything else. A guy I trust in the shop said he saw it opened up and the pistons looked good, but the intake valves did get hit hard enough to bend them up inside the head and keep them there while that side free-wheeled.

Tech did a great job, still gets 20 mpg hwy (with 10% ethanol--used to be 22 without ethanol, just plain 87 gas) and the first thing I noticed after getting it back was that the startup tick was gone.

That's a concern.

Pistons hitting valves can displace aluminum in the pistons, and cause issues later. Ask any qualified engine builder.
