Default 2wd leved 33" - 35" dilema

Hey guys. It's about that time for some new tires for my truck, and i THOUGHT I was set on a set of BFG TA/KO's 315/70x17, but my buddy doesn't seem to think I have enough room.

2004 2wd with 4" spindle lift. Currently has 265/70x17's on there and seems like i have PLENTY of room.

What do you guys think? I'm mainly worried about the tires hitting at full lock, or turning hard. Seems like they might hit the back fender well?

Anyone with similar size tires on a leveled 2wd have pics at full lock so i could see? Thanks.

Well, I'm not up on 2 wheelers, but it looks to me like you would be pushing it for clearance when turning.

Are you using the same wheels? Since the 35's will be roughly 4" taller and 2" wider than what you have now, I would take some rough measurements with the wheels turned full lock each way. Just pretend that the tire will be 2" closer to the fender (height wise) and also factory in another inch or so wider. That would give you a good ball park.

When mine was about like yours I had these 36's and they scrubbed at full lock on a part of the wheel liner in the front and on the very end of the lower air valance. But my after market rims likely have different backspacing than yours also.

Yes, I'd be using the same wheels. I'd be removing the wheels, and after they are powder coated, put the new tires on there. Correct me if i'm wrong.. but installing spacers would add clearance between the spindle but because the tires would be moved futher out, would be more likely to hit the wheel well when i turn.

Your theory would be correct. Big tires and a stuffed wheel well might look nice, but going a little smaller and leaving some space in there would be more functional, leave you more room for flex, let's you tow & haul more, is easier on front end components and gets better fuel economy.

There is a difference between how big you CAN go and how big you SHOULD go...

yea the bigger spacers could cause you to scrub. Its a balance between pushing them far enough away to clear the UCA or spindle but not too much to where they scrub the wheel well.

I have a 2.5" level and 3" body lift and 35/12.5 on stock tires with 1.5" spacers and rub at full lock while going down a hill in reverse. Its happened three times lol

I think I'm just going to go with the Nitto Trail Grapplers 295/70x17... they measure almost 34" and they're agressive. So, give the truck a mean look, and still be functional. Plus they are almost $50 cheaper per tire than the BFG's.

and in my opinion, even if they were the same price, the Nitto is just a better tire...
