pWhere to mount CB radio in '05 QC 4X4
I just picked up my new truck today (yeah, it's got a 5.7 hemi) and haven't figured out where I'm going to mount my CB radio and trailer brake controller. I've got a manual shift transfer case, so I don't have much room in the center floor area, and don't like the prospect of mounting it under the steering wheel. Any ideas/photos of your installations??
BTW - I have been a diehard Chevy fanatic since I was a kid (I'm 33 now), and I love this truck. If I have as much luck with this truck as I have my 2 Caravans, I'll never own another GM product.

You should try mouting it in the glove box next to your stack of Willie Nelson tapes. Run the wire behind the consol and hang the hand held speaker on the dash, it will look clean and it will accent your Dale Eranhartd sticker.
Just messin'.
YOu can pick up one of these overhead racks and put in there. You could run most if not all the wires down the A pillar cover. It is out of sight but within reach.
Incase you need a place for your gun gun rack

Cobra makes a nice unit that has all the controls on the hand set. The cord goes down to a small box that mounts under your front seat and your antenna runs out of that. I'm very happy with mine. I slipped the mount between the plastic trim and the rubber bottom of the center console cubby with no need to drill holes at all. It stays in place on the roughest of trails.

The Cobra 75 is a decent basic radio for cars and light trucks who've got mounting restrictions.. You'll get a mile or two of range with pretty clear transmit/receive.. I've got one in my pickup ('04 Quad-Cab) and I've got a Galaxy_88 in my big truck (it's mated to a Messenger-600 kicker for "long distance communication")..
The benifits of having a CB radio in your vehicle are... Well, there's more pro's than con's.. Pro's: On Channel_19, you get to find out from us truckers where the cops are, where the traffic is, what lane is best in a traffic jam, and hear some pretty good (but often tasteless) jokes, etc. Some states have their state troopers monitor Channel_9 for emergency's.. And pretty much any channel between 24 and 40 is clear enough for easy conversation between two or more vehicles. (The lower bands like 1 thru 10 are usually cluttered with HAM operators.) Con's: If you listen to Channel_19 long enough, you'll eventually hear some of our retarded bretheren makin' asses of themselves while they burp, fart and/or play music. into the mic.
If you've already got a CB, like the Cobra 29 Classic, etc you may do well with a slip-seat box..

I just posted pix of my controller install in the center dash cubby-hole in another post. Depending on the size of the CB they both may mount there, if you want. The controller is very accessible for adjustment and emergency use. It would be less so about anywhere else others suggested.
When I got my new Ram the end of last month and looked under the dash, I was shocked to see there really isn't an "under dash" in the same sense there used to be. Time to improvise.
All the best.

Well, thanks for all the advise and ideas, but I decided to mount it under the steering wheel on the knee bolster. I had to drill 2 small holes, but I figure it's my truck, and I'm going to keep it for several years so I want to set it up so everything is handy to use and get to.
Again, thanks for the ideas.
