With 185K+ mine uses some oil so I just check it every tank and fill as needed. Mine runs fine so I'm going to just keep it full of oil and keep driving it.

A leak is still a leak. Fix it right

If it is smoking at startup, it is likely your valve stem seals leaking oil down the stem and into the combustion chamber where it is getting burnt off

193k on my Hemi. No fluid leaks, No issues ever with engine, Sensors, etc. No oil burn, NOTHING!!! These days this kind of mileage is not really that high. Yes, even for gas engines. My friend has a Chevy truck with 550k on the clock! Still running strong!

I have an 04 4.7 RAM. It 'uses' oil more than it should. Its 'up there' on the mileage. I am pretty sure what you are looking at are hardened valve stem seals. Mine never smokes even under hard acceleration, but leave it idling for five minutes and it will stand to burn oil, with a blue smoke on take off. Not a lot, but it's there. You can't mistake a burnt oil smell either. That's my opinion anyway.

If you're talking to OP, he's been gone since 2012. Thread was 2011.
