Default 2003 ram 135k miles

Got an 03 ram with 135k on it. Allway's maintained. It run's rough on start up and clear's up in about a minute. It appear's to be atleast a quart of coolant. Has anyone had coolant loss issue's or headgasket problem's with these? I still have to check to make sure there are no external leak's before I get into it. It set a #3 cyl misfire code too. I was thinking about swapping injector's with another cly to see if the misfire code move's to a different cly if it trigger's it again to rule an injector out. If that don't work it look's like the head's are comming off.

If it's losing coolant and it's a 4.7 I wouldn't run it any longer. Pull the dipstick and check for milky oil, and take it to a shop for a leakdown test. If it passes both of those, you probably have a leak somewhere. Avoid running the motor, as you can cause more damage.

Go to the top of the section and read our "Common Issues" thread and in there and on the site you will find many guys report 4.7's having coolant loss issues and misfiring due to coolant getting in the cylinder after it over heating

No coolant leak's, it was 1/2 gallon low on coolant. It set a PO303 code 2 more time's now. Running rough longer that it was before. look's like the head's are comming off. Now just wondering if anyone has done there's before and know's of anything else to look for or replace while in there. Thank's.

A bit more info on the engine package you have would help, 4.7 has overhead cam and 5.7 is centerblock (conventional arrangement).

I'm guessing you have a 4.7 and most likely a bad head gasket, or a cracked head

Either way, if you're losing that much coolant, and you're getting the codes, quit driving it, you may lock it up.

Bearings don't like antifreeze for lubricant.

Hope you get it figured out!!

It's a 4.7L and it appears to be getting coolant into cylinder #3.

Yup,

That would be my guess, but a leak down test would certainly confirm it
