Default 2008 Ram 545RFE Trans Issues

Ok so the other day I got home and went to shift from drive to park... no go shift lever (at colum) would not budge... so I proceded to shift down into first... worked fine went right down into first gear. THEN would not go back up to 2, D, N, R, OR park. So its almost 12am and I'm pissed by now so I finally muscled it up into the 2nd gear spot (indicator still reads 1st) and then the cable broke. It broke about an inch down from where it attatches to the shift arm (at colum) so next day I used a small ball peen hammer and lightly tapped on the shift arm (side of transmission) and wahlah! shifts back through all the gears. Ordered a new cable installed it and yes... same crap all over again and yes this cable broke too (anger issues) long story a little shorter... Has anyone ever heard of these transmissions sticking in a gear like this. Its solid feeling (i.e. once in first it solidly refuses to change to a diff gear) but when I crawl under and very lightly tap the shift arm (at transmission) it moves right out of first perfect. And as of now the 2nd through park gears all work fine... 37,000 Miles on the odo and this is all crazy just happend right out of the blue no problems befor this.

Sorry for the long read guys but I am completely lost on this one...

sounds like one of two things you might want to look for.
1 if the angle of the cable is too sharp it will cause binding
2 is there any play where the shaft goes into the trans. could be worn bushing binding.

With only 37k on the OD, why didn't you take it to the dealer for a warranty repair?!? Did I miss something?

Don't our warranties stop at 36k?

That's a bad dealer that won't help you for being just 1k over the warranty. I would go to arbitration, especially if it is an expensive fix. I have purchased at least 13 new vehicles in the past 40 years. No dealer worth his salt would refuse a repair if you are just over the limit. It’s called a “good faith” repair. ASK THEM! Specifically, ask for a “good faith repair”. If they are any good, they’ll do it. The worst they will say is … No. Take your business elsewhere and tell them you won’t be back.

If ya bought it new, it may be covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty if the cause is the transmission and the internal linkage binding up. I know my dealer would have made it right at only 37K.
