Weird speedo problem.
Hey all, I hope this is in the right section. I have a weird speedo problem. I have a 2006 Ram 1500 Mega Cab. About a week after I bought the truck, the speedometer at random skips. EX. I hit the throttle and it will go from 0 to 10 to 20 then maybe skip 30 and go to 40.
Then as I am slowing down. it will do the same thing. Then while parked at a traffic light. It will show I may be doing 5 -10 MPH.
Took it back to the dealership. First time they thought was moisture in the sensor. They cleaned it out and added dialectic grease or some kind of moisture stuff. Didnt work. I waited about 3 weeks to see if maybe it would work itself out.
Took it last week with same problem. This time they changed a speedo sensor. Didnt even drive off the lot and it did the same thing and the self corrected itself. It was to late for service so I called the advisor back the next day.
I explained what it was doing, (salesperson I bought from was setting up the appts, so she wasnt specific aparently) She went and asked a master tech. He said maybe some corrosion somewhere. I said Ok brought it back down for them to look at.
So I talke to her today, she says they could not replicate the problem. I said yeah I thought this would happen. Its so random. So they have everything on record and if it gets worse they will fix for free. When I drove off the lot it didnt do it.
So, my question is, what the heck is wrong? Why would it do it at random. It does it mostly when I leave for work in the morning and it may self correct itself on the way in. My drive is only 1.5 miles.
When I leave to go home from work it never does it. Its only in the morning or the first time the truck is being driven for the day and it doesnt happen everyday.
I was talking to the truck mechanic where I work. I drive big rigs. He thought maybe some kind of magneto in the speedo itself on the dashboard.
So I'm at a loss. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks
PS prob wont do it tomorrow..

Good point. I guess im gonna have to look under the truck myself apparently. Have you heard of a magneto of some sort on the speedo itself on the dash (where u see the speedo move)? I know most speedos used to be cable driven but this one if def all electronic according to the manual..
Thanks again
