Need help quick about the 02 ram 4.7l engine
Hey guys, I'm new here.
I have a 2002 ram 1500 4X4 four door with a bad 4.7. Just wanted to know if a 4.7l from another vehicle like a jeep, durango or a newer 4.7l out of ram would bolt right up and will work with the 2002 computer.
All the engines I have looked at so far says they wont work for the 2002 1500 as a replacement. If they wont anyone know why??
Thanks

I looked at http://www.car-part.com/ and unfortunately it looks like that was a one year only design. Something with the crank tone wheel tooth count (for the crank sensor signal) Those engines aren't cheap!
Found this info also...... Hi. Its not really worth trying to make the newer engine work. The 2002 engine uses a Chrysler JTEC controller, the newer engine uses a NGC. The two controllers use different patterns for the cam and crank sensors- the tone wheels are different. At the very least you would have to swap the tone wheels to make this work. The cam tone wheel is not that big of a deal- pull the right valve cover, wedge the timing guides, and replace the pulley. The crank tone wheel is not as nice. It is a one peice design, meaning the crank has to come out to replace it. This would involve seperating the bedplate from the block and removing the crank, replacing all bolts removed.

Hello all
Im bringing back this post as my 2002 2WD 4.7 (N engine) 1500SLT died (about 300 000 miles on the clock). Yeahhh... I have to replace it as fixing does not make much sense - bottom is knocking badly - top was overheated once so i rather replace it.
I know about 16 / 32 tone wheel tooth count and related differences my question is ...
Can I use powertech jeep engine - not HO as a replacement if i change tone wheel? I can easly get 4.7 WJ engine and modify what needed - dodge engine from 2002 is almost impossible to find in UK :/
I can modify 2 engines as I have 4.7 HO with knocking heads for free... Bottom of this engine is sweet and only 75000 miles...
Worst case scenario - who is good source for reconditioned 4.7? I might have to buy crate engine and ship it to UK... and that will be very painfull
THNX for any help
