Default Tips on pulling a CV shaft?

Rebuilding the front end on my Ram 1500 soon, and I remember pulling CV's taking a lot of my time when I did the front diff swap. I just swore, hammered, and pryed on them and they eventually just popped off. Anybody have any smooth tricks/tools that you made to help remove/install CV halfshafts?

The only two I've done were both on Chevy Z71s (you think our CVs hate high angles and large tires? One of the Z71s had 33s and the other had 35!)

I got them done by swearing, hammering and prying until they just popped off. LOL!!!

Sadly, neither was mine and I think the grand total I made for my labor on both was a case of Budweiser...

I had no luck prying. It's hard to do unless you have a lift and can do it like that guy in the video. It came out easy though when I gave it a few raps with a small sledge.

I spent a long time trying to get mine off with a slide hammer w/ CV adapter. Ended up requiring a bunch of heat, and even then, the CV didn't separate where it was supposed to. We ripped the shaft out of the differential. More heat (acetylene) to get the CV apart, then had to re-assemble everything.

We found that the o-ring was gone and water had gotten inside and rusted the cv to the shaft. What a pain.

Hopefully yours comes apart properly. Everything else I read said borrow the slide hammer w/ cv adapter from autozone.

Let me tell you, it does not go as smooth as the video. I actually got so frusturated i cut my axle in half to pull the it out. I figure that the new one might be able to squeeze in easier than getting the old one out. Not the case, after about an hour of struggling (btw, holding the cv axle and try to pull the ends down to slid into the diff is extremely tiring) I just marked where my upper control arm alignment bolts were and unbolted the arm. Everything went back together as easy as the video. I would get very long pry bars and a heavy hammer.

I had one come out with the shaft when I did my axle swap. Had to cut the CV shaft apart to get the stub shaft hammered out.
I think I might make a tool with a big sledgehammer and a chain, I'll post pictures if I do.

what i did was use a goose neck to pry on it on the side facing the rear then i just tapped the bottom of the cv with a hammer as much as i could outward and it just popped right off

I built a slide hammer out of some pipe and made the slide about 20 lb slide. I cut a notch out of steel plate to make it look like a heavy duty version of the cv adapter. I put it on and hit about 5-6 times as hard as i could and it finally popped off with stub shaft still attached. Like the other post, I cut the boot put it in a vise and hammered it out. This was after two days of prying on it with everything i could
